Welcome to Wyganowski Frames. I am now providing additional services with my relocation to Sauk Rapids. I am adding bicycle repair services and wheel building. Teaching frame building is still only for local students who are able to commute in. Classes are held every other weekend currently.
Wyganowski Frames is Paul Wyganowski, a fourth-generation custom frame builder who handcrafts and hand finishes each frame. I build custom bicycle frames, including tandems, triplets, and recumbents. My semi custom line of Raptor series frames is in the works and frames will be coming soon. I also build professional-grade custom unicycles of all types and giraffes. I will be adding a full line of high end production unicycles to my custom only unicycles. In addition to building I have a limited supply of older Columbus, Reynolds, Tange, Ishiwata, and Vitus tubes. I also have older castings, lugs and brazeons for sale.
Thank you for showing interest in my frames. I am carrying on the tradition of my three previous predecessors: Cecil Behringer, the first of whom started building in 1936; Terry Osell, who was taught by Cecil, and taught my direct predecessor; Tim Paterek, the last of whom has been responsible for more builders practicing this craft worldwide than any other frame builder, both through direct teaching and by those he taught and are now teaching the craft. Like my predecessors I work with steel. Steel if built properly is still the best option for longevity. Many will argue carbon is, but one aspect that carbon does not have is the ability to survive dropping or crashing which steel can multiple time over with no or minimal long term effects. But if the need is there repaired to 100% again carbon is only patched never restored to 100% of its original pre-damaged state.
I have been building custom handcrafted bicycle frames since 1989 and was introduced to the processes in 1985. I do not use any production building methods common amongst most builders. All of my frame building knowledge comes directly from the custom mentality one frame tailored specifically for the individual. It also how I construct each frame not from a production building style but custom hand finished building style. I do all the work myself, the only other people who will ever handle a frame built by me or the customer of the frame and my painter who I work with on site and with the finishing process. I welcome customers who want to follow the progression of their build and allow them to stop in to visit and document the progress. I like customers to ask about the process, and how and why I do, and do not or will not, build a frame certain ways.
I build bicycles by hand to exacting standards, using methods that prevent residual stress from being built into the completed frameset. I am in a minority of builders who build in a manner that prevents residual stress from being built into a frameset. I consider this a standard for any quality frames and my minimum standard. The end result is a frame that will, if cared for properly, last a lifetime. I build with steel and stainless steel tubes, and am the first and only builder in Minnesota to build framesets from aerospace grade stainless steel long before Reynolds 953 and KVA tube sets were available. Each frame is tailored to fit you and your riding style.
